About IMSI

What is IMSI Treatment?

IMSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection. It is an advanced method where the embryologist selects the best-looking sperm with fewer visible abnormalities before injecting it directly into the egg.

IMSI is similar to ICSI, but it uses a much higher magnification microscope to examine sperm morphology in greater detail.

This technique may be helpful in male infertility, previous IVF or ICSI failures, poor sperm morphology, unexplained infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss cases.

IMSI Advantage

How IMSI Helps in Fertility Treatment

Better Sperm Selection

IMSI allows detailed sperm evaluation under high magnification before selection.

Improved Fertilization

Selecting better sperm may improve fertilization and embryo development in selected cases.

Better Embryo Quality

IMSI may support better blastocyst formation and embryo quality in suitable patients.

Who Needs IMSI?

Patients Who May Benefit From IMSI

IMSI is usually considered when sperm quality is poor or when previous fertility treatments have not given the expected result.

  • High sperm DNA fragmentation
  • Poor sperm morphology or abnormal sperm shape
  • Oligoasthenospermia-related sperm issues
  • Two or more failed IVF or ICSI cycles
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Recurrent biochemical pregnancies
  • Recurrent miscarriages
  • Repeated IVF treatment failures

Procedure

Why is IMSI Performed?

01

Egg Collection

Eggs are collected under medical supervision using ultrasound-guided support.

02

Sperm Magnification

Sperm is examined under high magnification to identify better morphology.

03

Sperm Injection

A selected sperm is injected directly into the egg using advanced lab technique.

04

Embryo Transfer

After fertilization, the resulting embryo is transferred into the uterus.

ICSI vs IMSI

Difference Between ICSI and IMSI

ICSI involves injecting one sperm directly into the egg. IMSI follows a similar approach, but before injection, sperm is examined under much higher magnification.

This helps the embryologist view sperm structure more clearly and select a sperm with better morphology for injection.

  • ICSI uses standard sperm selection
  • IMSI uses high magnification sperm selection
  • IMSI may help in repeated IVF / ICSI failures
  • IMSI may support better embryo quality in selected cases

IMSI Success Support

IMSI may improve fertilization and pregnancy chances in selected couples, especially where sperm morphology is a major concern.

  • Advanced microscope support
  • Better sperm morphology assessment
  • Useful in male infertility
  • Helpful after repeated IVF failures
